The Honorable Walter Dalton
A Rutherfordton County resident and six-term state senator, Lt. Governor Walter Dalton served four years as chair of the Senate Education Committee. During this time, he authored the Innovative Education Act and passed the Learn and Earn bill, offering students the opportunity to begin earning college credit while in ninth grade and then receive an associate’s degree within five years. Dalton is also known for garnering support to enact legislation which reduced class size and increased teacher pay. A partner at the Dalton and Miller law firm, Lt. Governor Dalton earned both a B.S. in Business Administration and a J.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is also co-founder of the Child Abuse Prevention Society.
