William Raspberry

A former Knight Professor at Duke University, William Raspberry has taught an array of courses including public policy relating to the history and impact of equal opportunity and affirmative action, the effect of socio-economic changes on families, children and communities, the ways citizens seek political power, and the press and the public interest. The Mississippi native retired from the Washington Post after 39 years. While there, he won the 1994 Pulitzer Prize for his commentaries on crime, AIDS, the Nation of Islam, and violent rap lyrics. Raspberry is chairman and founder of Baby Steps, a program in his home state of Mississippi that teach low-income parents of preschoolers how to prepare their children for success in school and in life. An Indiana Central College graduate, Raspberry holds more than a dozen honorary degrees.
