With 35 years of P-12 and university service at the state, regional, and national level, Anderson served as senior education advisor to former Governor Jim Hunt during his third and fourth terms. As a cabinet-level official, she worked closely with the NC General Assembly on key education legislation and was responsible for guiding Governor Hunt’s education agenda. During her tenure, she served as chair of the NC Education Research Council and on the executive committees of the Public School Forum of North Carolina Board, the NC School Improvement Panel, and the Southeastern Vision for Education (SERVE).

Prior to joining the Governor’s Office, Anderson served for 20 years as a K-12 director of curriculum for the NC Department of Public Instruction. Following her service in the Hunt administration, she was the North Carolina president for Voyager Learning, Inc., and senior advisor to the Hunt Institute. Anderson is a well-respected member of the education community with strong statewide ties. She is sought out for counsel on a number of issues including her expertise with private and not-for-profit businesses looking to create and manage high-performing organizations. She continues to serve on the board of the Public School Forum of North Carolina and is a founding member and secretary of Governor Hunt’s First in America Foundation. She currently serves as chair of the North Carolina Center for Afterschool Programs.
