Performance

The Hunt Institute works with governors and other current and emerging political, business and education leaders to advance public education reform. We have gained the trust of these leaders by:

  • Identifying the most critical issues facing education
  • Providing research that informs decision‐making
  • Engaging the best expertise available
  • Presenting best practices that are producing positive results

Our accomplishments include:

  • Convened five successful Governors Education Symposia, our flagship event. Participation increases each year, drawing governors to grapple with the tough education issues in their own states, and learn from national experts and each other.
  • Introduced the Lieutenant Governors Education Symposium in 2005. Recognizing that these leaders often head major initiatives, serve on boards, and run state legislatures, we want to help them formulate their own perspectives on education.
  • Orchestrated six education retreats specifically designed for North Carolina legislators. Working right here in our home state, this retreat is a model for how states can connect legislative leaders with education experts for better policy decisions.
  • Launched the North Carolina Science Summit, gathering local education leaders and science teachers to consider ways to improve scientific literacy for elementary and middle school students.
  • We've sustained multi-year relationships with major funders while still carrying out our mission.
