Education Reform and Advocacy Leader Named to Hunt Institute Board

Durham, N.C.—Management consultant and New York resident Mimi Corcoran has been selected to the James B. Hunt Jr., Institute Foundation Board of Directors. Board members voted to accept Corcoran during its May meeting in Chapel Hill. Cocoran earned her degrees in English and in Public Policy and Finance from Yale and New York University.
A former executive in Chase Manhattan Bank’s International Trading/Treasury Operations and Systems, Corcoran also served as the Director of Special Projects at Open Society Institute and The Soros Foundations Network. While there, she managed the Foundation’s more than $600 million operating budget and provided strategic and operational support to foundations worldwide focusing extensively in Central Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. She was also instrumental in the development of The After-School Corporation, a social venture started in
1998 with a $125 million challenge grant from Soros to enhance after-school programs across the nation. A board member of various educational and youth-related institutions, Corcoran also contributed to the launching of the New York City Charter Center for Excellence, which is a $40
million public/private venture supporting the development and growth of high performing charter schools in New York.
Prior to her current consulting role, Corcoran was the Executive Director of the Beginning with Children Foundation, Inc. (BwCF) focusing on education reform and advocacy. In this position, she created and implemented administrative, curricular, merit pay, and operational infrastructures for the successful development and growth of two charter schools.
