State Engagement
There are no "one-size-fits-all" answers
in state education reform. That's why the Hunt Institute
provides highly targeted advice and assistance to governors
and other leaders influential in education. The Institute
combines analysis with the desires expressed by governors
to help develop precisely tailored solutions, serving
as a reliable and respected consultant on substantive
education improvement and innovative practices to achieve
reform.
The Institute assesses strategic opportunities through
a careful survey of a state's policy, political, educational
and media landscapes to develop a state profile. State
profiles allow the Institute to pinpoint education priorities,
determine viable political strategies to achieve them,
suggest policy options to enact them and identify potential
revenue sources to support them. Based on the research
and analysis detailed in state profiles, the Hunt Institute
assembles expert teams to meet with governors about
the education challenges facing their states. State
engagement teams may include Hunt Institute principals
and staff, a bipartisan collection of incumbent and
former governors, business leaders, legislators, researchers
and education practitioners. Direct consultation with
governors and their staffs results in a state-specific
work plan. To assist governors in advancing and sustaining
reforms, the Hunt Institute continually evaluates the
effectiveness of its state engagement work, modifies
its activities if necessary and reports its results.
This state-level education improvement is the cornerstone
of the Hunt Institute's efforts. The Hunt Institute's
work in states focuses on creating the will, knowledge
and capacity to implement policies and practices that
lead to better outcomes for all students.
