The Thomas B. Fordham Institute held the event “Understanding Common Core State Standards” on April 22, 2010, in Washington, D.C. This panel discussion was moderated by Checker Finn, President of the Fordham Institute, and featured Jason Zimba and David Coleman, writers on the Common Core State Standards Initiative math and English Language Arts (ELA) work teams. The event provided participants—both at the Fordham Institute and via the Web—an opportunity to learn more about content, organization, and focus of the standards, as well as how they can provide a solid foundation for improving student achievement.
