The Intersection Webinar Recap: Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO)

April 27, 2018

Our thanks to Melissa McGrath, Director of Communications at the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) for presenting on this week’s The Intersection: A Biweekly Education Policy Conversation. Melissa joined us to share key strategies behind their new States Leading campaign, which celebrates work that states are doing to improve student outcomes in the ESSA era.

Key Takeaways:

  • Changing the Narrative | One of the primary goals of the States Leading campaign is to change the narrative around state ESSA plans and plan reviews. CCSSO and their partners hope to demonstrate how states are following through on their commitment to create education systems that serve all students well.
  • Lifting up Best Practices | The campaign shares promising strategies and best practices states are using to improve education outcomes for their students. States Leading provides a platform for states to learn from one another about what works.
  • Focusing on Equity | CCSSO believes states are leading the work to increase equity in education across the United States. Ongoing campaign outreach highlights states’ efforts to improve the educational experience of underserved student groups, including students of color and low-income students.

If you have ideas for States Leading content, please reach out to communications@ccsso.org.
