Ray Covington, Ph.D.
Director of Strategic Partnerships
Dr. Ray Covington is the Hunt Institute’s Director of Strategic Partnerships. His primary focus is to build strong and lasting programmatic and philanthropic relationships with key stakeholders for The Hunt Institute. In collaboration with the Hunt staff and Foundation Board, he plays a key role in identifying, fostering and securing financial support from educational partners, foundations and corporations.
Ray brings 30 years of experience in higher education, development and community service to the Institute. Previously, he served at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) as the assistant vice chancellor, at Greensboro College as the vice president for institutional advancement and executive director of the Greensboro College Foundation.
He has served on many boards, commissions and organizations, including the North Carolina Mining and Energy Commission, North Carolina Oil and Gas Commission, Jonesboro Historical Society, Friends of the Lee County Parks Foundation, and the Rotary Club of Greensboro Carousel. He has been president of both the Burlington and Greensboro Rotary Clubs.
Covington earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Elon University, a master’s in higher education administration from UNCG, and a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
