UNC

While the Hunt Institute’s work is national in scope, it also has an active role to serve within North Carolina. As such, the Hunt Institute’s home at the University of North Carolina is the ideal place to conduct our work. The Hunt Institute complements and helps advance the University's three part mission of teaching, research and public service. Through its convening of national leaders in education research and practice, the Hunt Institute places the University’s 16-campus system at the vanguard of the national imperative to improve public education and helps keep UNC on the leading edge of educational progress.

The Hunt Institute’s unique and integral relationship with UNC is reflected in the Institute’s focus on research and policy analysis tied to systemic and continuous improvement in education. The Institute’s seminars and symposia demonstrate our partnership with the University.

These programs include:

  • North-Carolina-focused workshops for school board chairs, superintendents and other local education leaders
  • Orientations for new school board members and county and city leaders
  • Seminars for legislative leaders
  • Summits of state leadership teams

The Hunt Institute’s programs have substantive impact on work being conducted in higher education, as well as public schools. This positive impact extends across a range of programs throughout the University by providing opportunities for faculty research initiatives, internships for graduate and undergraduates, interactions with the leaders who visit the Institute and participation in Institute programs.

"I look forward to working with the Hunt Institute as North Carolina continues its drive to make progress and lead the nation in education. The Hunt Institute provides the kind of policy and political expertise Governors need to help them chart a course for dramatically improving their public schools."
